Traditional Web Page versus The Blog
In recent years, many educators have begun creating class web pages in order to keep students informed about their classroom. While there are many positives to this process (including uploading class assignments, class calendars and useful websites) there are also many negatives. A class website usually doesn't allow for students to interact socially with each other or the teacher. Information from a class website is a one way street: from teacher to student. A blog, on the other hand, can allow information to go both ways. A blog allows the teacher to interact with their students as they are allowed to comment on posts or ask questions. Students can even interact with each other in the comment section of a blog. In this way, blogs allow for social learning and allow our students to seek out and share information while a traditional web page does not. Winner (by a hair): The Blog!

Your comment about blogs allowing for “social learning” is great! I don’t hear that comment often but it is very relevant to educating the whole student. The social skills learned through participation in a blog can set a person up for productive group collaboration when in the work force.
